GeoSen

AI and geodata to raise awareness of sustainable spatial development (GeoSen)

Motivation: Rural regions across Europe initially face similar challenges. These include strong urbanisation tendencies, considerable shrinkage processes, an increasing need to adapt to climate change, and the endangerment of existing cultural landscapes. To minimise new land consumption, efficient spatial development is necessary, which in turn requires a detailed and transparent data basis for managing demands and for weighing them up. For the continuous and seamless collection of digital land-use data required in line with the Smart Villages concept, the planning authorities responsible for rural areas in particular lack the necessary resources.

Objectives: Through innovative IT tools that identify spatial changes in land use using AI techniques and that can be used for development processes for the efficient and sustainable use of the land resource as well as for strengthening rural areas, the secondary objective of supporting development and planning processes for sustainable rural areas and Smart Villages through digitalisation is to be achieved.
